Fifty six golfers reported for duty on what was a beautiful spring day in the sunny south east. The golf course was in fantastic condition and the scoring was as impressive. The golfing ladies (a growing number at this event) turned in great scores with Maeve Morrissey clinching first prize. Maeve is the wife of our long standing member and regular winner, Pat Morrisey (‘66), who came third overall with a commendable 33 points. The overall winner was our golfing society captain for 2025, Stephen McGee ('00). Stephen had an excellent score of 36 points including four birdies and blitzed the back nine in 33 strokes, beating Eric Boland ('97) on a count back. Bien joué Stephen and well deserved.
Billy Kelly ('80) generously sponsored the prizes and hosted the prize giving ceremony with drinks and canapes, followed by fine dining at its best in the MacMonigal Room. Dining at Kelly's Hotel is always a treat and never fails to impress. The post dinner formalities concluded with 'picky out' prize giving. The winners were met with roars of approval and in fact everyone was a winner such was the enjoyment of the evening.
The parting memory was a performance of 'Crocodile Rock' by our Union Treasurer, Dan O'Leary ('83). His piano and singing talent knows no bounds. Pity about his troupe of backing singers. None of which were graduates of the 'schola cantorum'.
Onward to Portmarnock GC.
