The Clongowes Union Golfing Society played for the Sheil Cup at Royal County Down on Friday 28th June 2024.
This annual competition, at what is regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the world, was filled to capacity. Golfers were treated to a perfectly conditioned course and beautiful weather on the day. The competition was followed by a sumptuous dinner within the confines of the Members’ dining room.
The Clongowes Union Ulster Branch President, Tom Delap, convened the traditional Ulster Branch AGM after dinner and it concluded in an orderly manner without controversy or revolt. As a gesture of thanks and continued appreciation, the captain of Royal County Down, Mr Nick Coburn, was presented with the Golfing Society tie.
The evening closed with the presentation of prizes:
The age range of OC’s spread across 68 years and a great day, and night, was had by all. This is what our Golfing Society is all about!
The penultimate golf event is the Captain’s Prize (Fergal Cleary) at County Louth Golf Club, Baltray on 26th August. The payment link for a tee time will be issued by email on 26th July. If you do not receive the Golfing Society email circulars, please register your email address with clongowesgolfsoc@gmail.com to receive the payment link. There will be 60 places on the timesheet which, we expect, will fill in very short time.
Happy golfing to all OC’s for the Summer ahead!
