I was delighted to attend the annual Fr. Peter Kenney Day in Clongowes on Wednesday 12th June last.
In the absence of Tony Pierce, Fr. Sheil presented a celebration of the Old Clongownian recipients of the Legion d’Honneur, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. In attendance was H.E. Vincent Guerend, the Ambassador of France to Ireland.
Following a mass in the Boys Chapel, the Union presented the school with a specially commissioned portrait of former headmaster Fr. Philip Fogarty. A special word of thanks to Tom Lane (OC ’81) who proposed the idea to commemorate Fr. Fogarty, during his Presidency of the Union, and immediate past President, Peter O’Meara (OC ’88), and Paul Holland and Drew Flood (both OC ’84) who organised the Portrait by Laura Cronin. Sincere thanks also to all those who supported the fundraising for the portrait.
